INVERKIP AND WEMYSS BAY COMMUNITY COUNCIL
THIS PLANNING APPLICATION COULD AFFECT YOU
The application by Scottish Power Generation Ltd is for an Urban Village to be built on the Inverkip Power Station site
A planning application by Scottish Power for the development of the power station site is due to be submitted in the near future to Inverclyde Council. The application is for a mix of residential, business, community use and small scale retail. It is expected the first houses will be completed by 2014/15 and that it will take at least 12 years to complete the development.
As part of its 2005 Local Plan Inverclyde Council concluded that a maximum of 400 homes should be built on the Inverkip Power Station site.Inverclyde Council planners have re-assessed the site and have evaluated the impact of the proposed application on infrastructure; education, roads and environmental considerations.
The planners conclude that while the site could accommodate up to 780 homes, the Planning Board will be informed the site and surrounding area can sustain 640 homes. Road improvements, including a roundabout at the eastern entrance to Inverkip, should be completed before houses are occupied. They also conclude however that no additional schools are needed. If permission for the development is granted, the exact number of homes will be decided at the planning application stage. IWBCC understands that the 400 houses mentioned in the Local Plan will be increased substantially to perhaps 640 or even 780. This raises concerns about the overall impact on our community; the A78 already experiences high capacity at peak periods and it is generally felt that current resources such as police, schools and medical facilities are already overstretched.
IWBCC has requested a delay to the date this application will be considered by the Planning Board to allow the submission of views from the communities of Inverkip and Wemyss Bay.
Should you wish to make any concerns you have about the proposed application for an Urban Village on the site of Inverkip Power Station known to Inverclyde Council's Planning Board see the draft letter. If you choose to send the letter please ensure you fill in the box with a personal comment otherwise the letter will be considered part of a petition and not a separate objection.
